Recent JCCEM Achievements
- A Russian-developed Gamma Locator Device (GLD)
The Gamma Locator was designed and developed by NIKIMT, Russian Research and
Development Institute of Construction Technology, and was used during cleanup of the
Chernobyl nuclear reactor. The GLD is a remotely operated device. It scans a room,
measures the radioactivity levels, and identifies the isotopic content of contamination.
The information can be used in planning decontamination work and to keep worker exposures
at a minimum.
- Universal Solvent Extraction Technology (UNEX)
The Universal Solvent Extraction (UNEX) Technology has been developed in Russia for
removing cesium, strontium and transuranium elements from acid nuclear waste.
- Russian Pneumatic Pulsating Pump
A new technology for the retrieval of high-level nuclear waste (HLW) from storage
tanks.
- Russian Hybrid Plasma Induction Cold Crucible Melter
A pilot-scale apparatus for the treatment of solid mixed radioactive wastes -
