When holidays fall on weekends, Russian authorities announce during the week prior to
the holiday whether the holiday will be celebrated on the preceding Friday or following
Monday. U.S. and Russian embassies and consulates are closed holidays.
Immunization, Health and Travel Advisories
- No vaccinations or immunizations are required.
- It is recommended not to drink tap water in St. Petersburg and in remote areas unless
it has been purified. It is recommended to purchase bottled water for consumption.

Time Change
Moscow and St. Petersburg are eight hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Standard Time.

Passport and Visa Requirements
A passport is needed to depart and re-enter the U.S. Passports must be valid three
months beyond the intended stay in Russia, along with tickets and documents for return or
onward travel. A visa is required for business related and tourist travel to Russia.
Required documents to be submitted with a Russian visa application include:
- Photocopy of the vital information pages of your valid passport (showing Name, Birth
Date, Passport Number, Expiration Date)
- 1 Application form, completed and signed
- 3 recent passport-type photographs
For stay exceeding 3 months, or multi entry visa, an HIV test required.
Official invitation from an organization authorized to invite business visitors to
Russia. To arrange an invitation, usually sent to you by fax, your sponsor will require:
Your Full Name, Nationality, Passport Number, Date of Arrival/Departure in Russia, and the
Cities you will visit.
Multi Entry Visa: Call TDS at (800) 874-5100, for specific instructions
- A U.S. passport valid for at least 3 months beyond intended stay
- Tickets and documentation for return or onward travel
- Visa
- No vaccinations are required
Currency Exchange Rate
Foreign currency should only be exchanged at an official bureau and all transactions
must be recorded on the currency declaration form which is issued on arrival. It is wise
to retain all exchange receipts. Exchange Bureaus are numerous and easy to locate. Large
shops offer their own exchange facilities.

Direct Dialing to Russia from the United States
For direct dialing to Moscow and St. Petersburg, first dial 011 for an international
line, then 7 for the country code, followed by the city code and phone number. The city
code for Moscow is 095, and for St. Petersburg is 812.
Direct Dialing to the United States from Russia
Most hotels offer special phone systems with international direct dial, albeit at
premium rates. From a standard city phone line, dial "8" and wait for a second
dial tone for long distance calls, then dial "10" followed by the country code
and number you are calling.
